Trading on the cash equities market at the Johannesburg Stock Exchange was still halted by early Tuesday afternoon following a technical problem.
It’s the second time in a month that technical problems have prevented trading on the local bourse. A similar closure on 12 July was attributed to an international connection problem between the stock exchange and MTN.
The bourse had been unable to resolve the problem after having to close trading only in that section early on Tuesday morning.
JSE trading statistics for June 2010 showed the number of cash equity trades during the first six months of 2010 was up 22,4% on the same period in 2009, according to the JSE’s website. — Sapa
