Parliament’s portfolio committee on communications, chaired by ANC MP Ismail Vadi, has summoned the boards of the SABC and Sentech to answer questions about problems affecting both organisations.
The committee on Thursday said it had “decided to invite the full board of the SABC to appear before it on 24 August 2010”.
Vadi said the decision to summon the entire board had been prompted by “an apparent corporate governance crisis”. He wants the board to report on its functioning, the SABC’s revised turnaround strategy and the controversy related to the appointment of Phil Molefe as head of news and current affairs.
Sentech’s board, meanwhile, has been summoned to appear in front of the portfolio committee a week later, on 31 August. It must provide details of its strategic plan and report on the recent resignation and suspension of its senior executive management team. — Staff reporter, TechCentral
