A large Cell C banner put up by a disgruntled customer along Beyers Naude Drive in Johannesburg has been vandalised.
The banner, which appeared professionally printed and apparently bore the Cell C logo, was prominently displayed on the wall of the WorldWear mall along the busy road. Pictures of it were tweeted on Friday.
“The most useless service provider in SA — Cell C Sandton City,” it read.
On Wednesday, according to pictures on Twitter, parts of the banner had been blacked out and replaced with words which appeared to have been written with white spray paint.
The banner now read: “The most useful service provider in SA — Cell C Sandton City.”
The bottom of the banner which originally gave the name of the franchise manager and his phone number, claiming he had said that his “unnamed executive head refuses to assist the customer” now read: “We love Cell C”.
The high court in Johannesburg will hear an urgent application on Wednesday from Cell C to have the banner removed.
Cell C spokesman Karin Fourie said on Monday the application was against the WorldWear Mall and the customer.
She said letters of demand to remove the banner were issued to both the customer and the mall’s management on Thursday evening.
“Our demands were ignored by both the customer and the centre management and Cell C had to launch an urgent application to have the banner removed,” she said at the time. — Sapa
