First National Bank’s transactional banking application for smartphones now supports augmented reality (AR) technology, the company said on Wednesday.
The new app, which was launched on the Google Play store earlier this week and which will come to iPhone users within the next two weeks, allows users to locate eBucks partners using an AR overlay. eBucks is FNB’s rewards programme.
“Augmented reality overlays retail partners onto your phone screen, indicating the distance to the retailer, eBucks spend and earn options, opening times and contact details,” said FNB digital banking executive Sahil Mungar in a statement. He said the technology will “evolve over time to become even more interactive”.
The updated app also features a new look for messages as well as the ability to block, unblock, cancel and order any cheque, credit or debit card temporarily. Another new feature is “nav>> Car”, allows users to manage cars in one place, including renewing car licences, and viewing and paying traffic fines.
Lastly, the bank has introduced FNB TV, showing customers how to bank through tutorial videos available directly in the app. — © 2017 NewsCentral Media
