An alleged copper cable theft kingpin was expected to appear in the Polokwane magistrate’s court on Wednesday, Limpopo police said.
Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said the 37-year-old man was arrested in Westernburg, outside Polokwane, on Tuesday, with copper cables worth R700 000.
“Further investigations led the team to a scrap metal [dealer] in Ladana where a further 800kg of suspected processed copper was confiscated,” he said.
“Preliminary investigations has linked the main suspect to 16 cases of cable theft and one murder in Gauteng, as well as four cases of cable theft in the Polokwane and Seshego areas.”
The manager of the scrap metal business was warned and ordered to appear in court, he said.
The alleged kingpin would appear on charges of theft and other related charges, said Mulaudzi.
