In a move clearly designed to get people using their television sets to access video-on-demand and other services, Samsung has reached a deal with Vox Telecom to give buyers of its Smart TVs almost 1TB of free bandwidth.
The ADSL bandwidth on offer — a total of a million megabytes, or 977GB — is unthrottled and unshaped.
“The million megabytes of free Fat Pipe ADSL data being offered to Samsung customers is valid for 12 months and is unthrottled, unshaped, high-quality bandwidth,” says Vox Telecom products and marketing executive head Gary Sweidan.
In terms of the deal, only Samsung Smart TVs purchased through participating retailers will qualify for the free bandwidth.
For Samsung, the deal will allow new TV owners to stream movies and connect to social media networks. It will also allow them to surf the Internet without needing to buy additional bandwidth for their new TV.
The companies say the data an offer is enough to watch up to a thousand movies.
The deal is only valid for TVs bought after 12 May, and ADSL line rental is excluded. — © 2014 NewsCentral Media
