Vodacom South Africa boosted investment in its network by 12.3% year on year in the quarter ended 31 December 2020, bringing capital expenditure to R2.7-billion from R2.4-billion in the year-ago quarter.

Icasa has hit back hard at Telkom’s application to interdict the upcoming spectrum auction, warning that if the company is successful, it will serve to entrench Vodacom and MTN’s “duopoly” – the very thing Telkom claims it wants to avoid.
Communications regulator Icasa said on Friday that it will oppose MTN South Africa’s urgent court application challenging a plan that could see smaller operators get first dibs at a crucial band for 5G telecommunications.
MTN South Africa has become the second telecommunications operator to take the industry regulator, Icasa, to court over the upcoming spectrum auction.
The supreme court of appeal has thrown out MTN South Africa’s appeal against a judgment ordering it to pay R11.4-million in damages, plus interest, to a dealer whose business was shut down in 2011.
Cell C CEO Douglas Craigie Stevenson said on Thursday that the company plans to use both the Vodacom and MTN networks to provide cellular services to its customer base.
