TechCentral’s interview with Brett and Mark Levy, the co-CEOs of Blue Label Telecoms, was by far TechCentral’s most popular podcast in September 2018, according to statistics from platform partner iono.fm.
The interview focused on Blue Label’s depressed share price, the group’s acquisition of 45% of Cell C and the future of the business. The wide-ranging interview covered everything from the state of South Africa’s telecommunications industry to the potential for consolidation in the sector.
An interview with Dimension Data Middle East and Africa CEO Grant Bodley was the second most popular podcast on TechCentral in September. Bodley spoke about how Dimension Data is doing in the region, how it’s weathering the tough economic environment and where the opportunities lie in the local IT services sector.
A conversation with Research ICT Africa executive director Alison Gillwald placed third in September. The interview, which took place at the International Telecommunication Union’s Telecom World event in Durban, was a wide-ranging discussion on the state of ICT in South Africa. From government’s planned wholesale open-access network to the regulatory and policy changes needed to take the sector forward, it was a fascinating discussion with one of the country’s leading experts in the field.
The fourth most consumed TechCentral podcast in September was an interview with an online shopping start-up called OneCart. Founders Lynton Peters and Ariel Navarro explained how their service allows customers to shop online from multiple retailers, including Woolworths, Pick n Pay, Dis-chem and Clicks, with orders delivered within two hours (or at a preferred delivery time).
An interview with Adapt IT CEO Sbu Shabalala rounded out the top five in September. Shabalala spoke about his background, how he got into business and what led to the founding of Adapt IT, its listing on the JSE and its rapid growth over the past 14 years.
