Themba Dlamini, deputy director-general for corporate services at the department of science & technology, has been appointed as the new CEO of the Independent Communications Authority of SA (Icasa).
Icasa chairman Stephen Mncube made the announcement on Friday morning at the authority’s press conference on call termination rates.
According to Icasa spokesman Jubie Matlou, Dlamini has worked previously for Telkom, in the fixed-line operator’s regulatory department. He’s also been an adviser to former labour minister Membathisi Mdlalana. Dlamini was appointed to the science & technology department in January 2009.
A developmental economist, Dlamini has an MA from Williams College where his dissertation focused on how exports could help grow SA’s economy.
Icasa’s CEO is appointed by the authority’s council for a three-year period. Dlamini, who begins work at Icasa on Monday, replaces Karabo Motlana. — Duncan McLeod, TechCentral
