Telkom and trade unions will continue wage negotiations at the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) on Tuesday, trade union Solidarity said.
“The CCMA requested Telkom 10 days ago to obtain a mandate for a wage increase of between 7,5% and 8% after Telkom had offered a wage increase of just 5%,” Solidarity union spokesman Marius Croucamp said in a statement on Monday.
Solidarity was demanding a wage increase of 10%.
Parties were also negotiating about the period of the agreement, measures for dealing with salary inequalities, issues concerning employees’ medical allowance and job security, he said.
“The wage agreement should have come into effect on 1 April, but wage negotiations only commenced in May this year,” Croucamp said. — Sapa
