Cell C has become SA’s second operator to cut BlackBerry prices in a week. The company on Friday said it was introducing new tariff plans for BlackBerry users starting at R27/month.
Its first new tariff plan, the BlackBerry Social Plan, offers Cell C customers access to Facebook, Twitter, BlackBerry Messenger (BBM), one BlackBerry e-mail account and Internet access for R27/month. The plans also includes downloads from BlackBerry App World.
The second new plan, called BlackBerry Social and Email, costs R37/month and includes access to one third-party e-mail account such as Yahoo, Hotmail or Gmail.
Cell C will retain its existing, R57/month BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS) plan, which offers full and unlimited access to BlackBerry data services, BBM, social networking sites, App World and up to 10 supported corporate and personal e-mail accounts.
Last week, 8ta, Telkom’s consumer-facing mobile arm, launched a pared-down version of BIS at R30/month. The offering allows users to pair one e-mail account with their devices, as opposed to the usual 10, but otherwise offers all of the standard functionality of the BIS service.
Consumers moving to 8ta’s new BlackBerry package can link their device to a company e-mail address or any online e-mail service such as Gmail, Yahoo Mail or 8ta’s own 8tamail. The existing BIS offering — which costs R59/month — will still be available to those that wish to use multiple mail accounts. — (c) 2012 NewsCentral Media
