First National Bank has brought cardless cash withdrawals to its smartphone banking application, allowing the company’s clients to withdraw money at an ATM even if they are not carrying their bank card.
Cardless cash withdrawals have been available via cellphone banking for some time — indeed, FNB says R2bn has been withdrawn to date using this method — but is not available as a feature in the app, which the bank says is used on 1,2m devices.
FNB said that cardless cash withdrawals are not available in the event of a cancelled credit card as the cancellation results in the closure of the account until a new card is issued.
Those wanting to use the app to withdraw cash must login using their credentials, select the cardless withdrawal option in the app and then enter a temporary Pin they’re sent into the ATM.
Over the past year, FNB’s banking app app has been updated to include features such as lost or stolen card cancellation, opening of new accounts and ordering of new cards.
The latest version of the software is available from the Apple, Android, Windows and BlackBerry app stores. — © 2015 NewsCentral Media
