It’s a fascinating insight into the future of computing: a Twitch user has put two Google Home voice-activated speakers next to each other and set them off in active discussion on a whole range of subjects – with the whole thing being live-streamed on the Internet to thousands of spellbound viewers.
The speakers, powered by Google’s cloud-based artificial intelligence and speech recognition algorithms, sometimes make little sense, talking past each other or repeating questions they’ve already received answers to.
But at times, the conversation seems to suggest a deeper “intelligence” behind the “bots”. The two speakers have at times during the live-stream even declared their love for each other, while at other times have thrown insults (see screenshot below):
The pair’s discussion had already attracted more than 72 000 followers on Twitch (at the time of writing).

If the idea of watching two (still rudimentary) artificial intelligences in discussion — or is it one artificial intelligence unaware that it is talking to itself? — sounds appealing, then watch a recording of the stream above. Now imagine what this conversation will be like five or 10 years from now… — © 2017 NewsCentral Media
