MTN South Africa has appointed Giovanni Chiarelli as its new chief technology and information officer. Chiarelli replaces Babak Fouladi, who was interim CTO in addition to his role as MTN group executive for technology and information systems.
Chiarelli has 17 years of experience in IT working for multinational corporations such as Infostrada, Accenture, Telecom Italia and Vodafone Group, MTN said.
Chiarelli holds an electrical engineering degree from Politecnico di Milano, Milan, Italy and an MBA from University Luigi Bocconi, also in Milan.
Before he joined MTN South Africa, Chiarelli was the CTO of Vodafone Romania.
“As MTN South Africa’s new CTIO, Chiarelli is expected to build on the network improvement milestones that have been achieved in the last 18 months and will be tasked with shaping and driving technology and information strategies for MTN South Africa,” the company said.
“Early results have indicated that the network improvement plans are bearing fruit, which creates much-needed momentum going into the festive season and 2017,” said CEO Mteto Nyati. — (c) 2016 NewsCentral Media
