After earlier on Monday saying it expects to implement stage-2 rotational power cuts until 11pm, Eskom has now doubled the amount of electricity it will remove from supply.
This follows the “additional loss of units at our power stations”, it said in a statement on Twitter.
Stage-2 load shedding means the failing state-owned power utility cuts up to 2GW on a rational basis. It has now said it will implement stage-4 shedding until 11pm on Monday, meaning up to 4GW is cut.
The latest round of load shedding, which began last Thursday, is likely to harm an economy that is already at risk of falling into recession after second quarter GDP growth came in at a negative 0.6%. — (c) 2019 NewsCentral Media
