It’s just a few weeks until the fourth annual Tech4Africa in Johannesburg. The event will be held on 9 and 10 October at the Focus Rooms in Sunninghill and will feature a wide range of speakers, including Amolo Ng’weno, MD of Kenya’s Digital Divide, which provides young, impoverished people with IT skills, and Petra Cross, a senior software engineer at Google.
The event includes 64 sessions spread over two days, covering developer keynotes, workshops and “deep dive” sessions, cloud sessions and workshops, and IBM’s SmartCamp for start-ups and entrepreneurs, and business keynotes.
The schedule for 9 October is focused on in-depth technical sessions, hands-on workshops and hacking sessions held in five separate rooms, making it the more technically focused day. 10 October will see higher-level presentations and demonstrations and is considered the more business-centric day.
One of this year’s sponsors is Nedbank, which will make its application programming interface for its PocketPOS device available to developers at the event and will offer prizes for the best apps developed during the course of the event.
In anticipation of the event, Tech4Africa held two hackathons in August, one in Cape Town and the other in Johannesburg. The results of these events will be presented at the conference.
As usual, the event will finish with an after-party where attendees can exchange ideas and business cards.
The full schedule of events is available on Tech4Africa’s website.
TechCentral is a media partner for the event.
