MTN has appointed former Microsoft South Africa MD Mteto Nyati as its new group chief enterprise officer. The appointment is effective 1 October.
The move comes just weeks after Nyati took on the role of GM for the Middle East and Africa at Microsoft, moving out of the South African operation, where he had been MD for six years.
“This newly created role is in line with our strategy to further leverage our integrated ICT offerings,” MTN group CEO Sifiso Dabengwa said in a statement announcing Nyati’s appointment.
“Mteto will be a member of the group executive committee and will take responsibility for leading the group-wide enterprise and ICT strategy, and to enhance MTN’s position in the enterprise segment.”
Nyati spent 12 years at IBM, where he held a number of senior executive roles. He has a BSc degree in mechanical engineering. In 2004, he was named a Yale University World Fellow.
During his time at Microsoft, Nyati played a big role in the development and implementation of Microsoft’s 4Afrika Initiative, a programme to use technology to improve Africa’s competitiveness. — (c) 2014 NewsCentral Media
