Communications director-general Mamodupi Mohlala has been locked out of her office at the department of communications despite being granted access to the building in Pretoria this morning.
In the latest dramatic development, Mohlala has given the department half an hour — until about 12pm today, Monday — to open her office.
Mohlala, axed by communications minister Siphiwe Nyanda, is locked in a meeting with the minister’s advisors.
Last week, Mohlala said anyone barring her access to the office would face a contempt of court charge.
The director-general went back to her office today, after the department of public service & administration apparently failed to find her an equivalent position in another government department.
Mohlala’s legal team last week sent a letter to public services minister Richard Baloyi outlining her objections to the surprise announcement in the Government Gazette that she had been appointed as administrator of the public service sector education & training authority.
She says she was only given a verbal offer and has still not received a formal written offer for the position.
Mohlala was recently reinstated to her post at the communications department after Nyanda fired her in July.
She threatened to take legal action on the grounds of unfair dismissal.
However, Nyanda and Mohlala reached an out-of-court settlement that resulted in her effectively being reinstated as director-general.
As part of the settlement, Mohlala agreed to take a month’s leave while Baloyi found her an alternative and equal position in another department. — Candice Jones, TechCentral
