Airports Company SA has confirmed a network failure across OR Tambo International airport disrupted passenger check-ins on Thursday.
The delays affected hundreds of passengers flying out of SA’s busiest airport, and flyers say the troubles took several hours to fix.
“It happened once, but twice,” says one passenger. Another says the troubles had started earlier in the day and continued on and off until after 4pm. “Hundreds of people were kept waiting.”
However, spokesman for the Airports Company Unathi Batyashe-Fillis says technical staff at the airport picked up the problem quickly and it was resolved within an hour.
She says affected airline checking counters moved to manual check-in, which did cause a backlog for airline check-ins.
Batyashe-Fillis could not say how many passengers were delayed by the network failure. She says the company is investigating the failure.
According to the company, the problem was isolated and it is working on preventing a similar situation. — Candice Jones, TechCentral
