Communications minister Siphiwe Nyanda has named four new councillors to the Independent Communications Authority of SA (Icasa). They are Ntombizodwa Ndhlovu, Joseph Lebooa, William Currie and Stephen Mncube.
Nyanda was given seven names to choose from by parliament’s portfolio committee on communications, which is responsible for interviewing candidates and drawing up a shortlist. The three candidates not chosen by the minister are John Matisonn, Mankakane Magagane and Luthando Mkumatela.
Portfolio committee chairman Ismail Vadi of the ANC says the multiparty committee has unanimously agreed to approve Nyanda’s decision.
“The minister has considered the matter very carefully and has heeded the advice of the committee,” Vadi says. “The recommended candidates possess skills in electronic engineering, broadcasting, electronic communications and postal policy, and public policy development.”
The nominated candidates will replace four councillors whose terms end this year. The departing councillors are Paris Mashile (also Icasa’s chairman), Brenda Ntombela, Robert Nkuna and Jacobus van Rooyen. — Staff reporter, TechCentral
