Candice Jones is back from the Large Hadron Collider in Switzerland, Duncan McLeod is back from the dizzying heights of the Sentech Tower in Brixton, and communications minister Siphiwe Nyanda is in the political wilderness. Yes, it’s been another crazy news week here at TechCentral, and we’re back with another episode of TalkCentral where we try to make sense of it all.
President Jacob Zuma‘s decision to sack his communications minister and replace him with Roy Padayachie — a deputy minister under the late Ivy Matsepe-Casaburri — came as a great surprise to just about everyone. And it’s been roundly welcomed by analysts, who argue that Padayachie is the right man for the job.
Duncan and Candice unpack Nyanda’s sacking, look at the challenges Padayachie is going to face in the role, and ask what the future holds for policy making in the telecommunications industry.
Candice tells us about particle physics, we look at the cut in call termination rates, unpack Broadband Infraco‘s chances of success, and announce the winners of last week’s giveaway. Get it while it’s hot.
