Telkom Mobile is offering free Wi-Fi-based Internet access to South Africans for free as part of a promotion that ends on 15 December. The free access, of up to an hour a day, is available at 1 500 hotspots around the country and no data caps apply.
The operator claims it has the largest Wi-Fi network in the country, with 3 000 hotspots, of which 1 500 have been activated so far. Other major players in South Africa’s Wi-Fi market are WirelessG and AlwaysOn.
Hotspots can be found in places like Primi Piatti, King Pie, McDonald’s, Hungry Lion, Wimpy, Steers, Chesanyama and Ocean Basket. A full list of locations is available online.
Telkom Mobile offers existing customers on some of its voice, hybrid and data plans 10GB of additional Wi-Fi access per month.
Non-Telkom Mobile customers who use up the hour of free Wi-Fi can buy bundles to extend their access. — (c) 2013 NewsCentral Media
