Australia’s mega broadband project, the National Broadband Network (NBN Co), has snapped up a top Telkom executive as its new head of network operations.
Liesel Ramjoo, Telkom’s managing executive for network core operations, will leave the operator next month to take up the position at NBN Co. She has worked for Telkom for more than a decade.
A NBN Co spokesman confirms that Ramjoo will be starting as the head of network operations on 24 September and will replace Steve Christian, who is retiring.
Christian has held the position since 2009 and was previously MD of SingTel Optus, the second-largest telecommunications company in Australia after fixed-line incumbent Telstra.
State-led NBN Co has been tasked with building a controversial national high-speed fibre network across Australia, mainly through delivering high-speed fibre connections into homes. It is a national, wholesale, open-access network that will offer high-speed data connections to Australian service providers.
Before officially taking on the role of managing executive for network core operations at Telkom in August 2011, Ramjoo held the role in an acting capacity since late 2009. She has also been an executive for managed customer networks since 2004. She holds an MBA from Unisa and a bachelor of social sciences degree in industrial psychology and law from the University of KwaZulu-Natal. — (c) 2012 NewsCentral Media
