Vodacom SA has announced new flat-rate fees for customers roaming in half a dozen African countries in which it and parent Vodafone operate.
Aside from reduced rates, the biggest benefit to Vodacom users is the fact that incoming calls and SMS messages are now free.
The cost of data has been reduced from R17,50/MB to R5/MB. It is only available to Vodacom’s contract customers and is billed in 10KB increments.
Local voice calls in the applicable countries now cost R2,90/minute and calls to SA or other international destinations are billed at R5/minute. All voice calls are charged on a per-minute basis.
Like incoming voice calls, incoming SMS messages are now free, with local and international SMS messages billed at R1,50/message.
The countries included in the deal are the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Mozambique and Tanzania.
Standard roaming rates will apply if a customer is roaming on a non-Vodacom or Vodafone network in those countries. — TechCentral
