Wireless Business Solutions subsidiary, telecommunications provider Broadlink, has unveiled plans to build a satellite hub at the Teraco data centre in Isando, east of Johannesburg. The hub will be launched in 2014.
The satellite hub will be located at the Teraco Teleport, which is described as “Africa’s first vendor-neutral satellite earth station”.
“The satellite platform will act as a hub to connect satellite feeds with terrestrial telecoms networks,” says Broadlink MD Mike Brown, who adds that the plan is to use the hub to support the company’s growth strategy, including expansion elsewhere in Africa.
“Central to the planning of the satellite hub is the fact that it will have full ‘geo-redundancy’ capabilities when it goes live,” Brown says, meaning it will allow for the support of more mission-critical communication services.
The satellite hub is due to be completed in December 2013 and services and products will be available from February next year. — (c) 2013 NewsCentral Media
